Happy New Year (Again)! Why Magic Cup Celebrates the New Year Twice and Sponsors Similar Holidays All Year Round

Our goal is to make Magic Cup a “second home” for our ever-expanding network of friends and family: a place where they can get together, enjoy handcrafted beverages, and learn about each other’s culture along the way.

To help keep our family of customers and franchise partners engaged (with us and with one another), our team arranges several festive celebrations each year. But these aren’t just any old celebrations. They’re immersive gatherings that expose Texas locals to a variety of global traditions, many of which are inspired by our own Asian American heritage.

And every single member of the MCC community is invited.

First up in 2021? Lunar New Year. An annual holiday symbolizing joyful renewal, Lunar New Year (similar to Chinese New Year and known as Tết in Vietnamese) celebrates the first new moon according to the Asian “lunisolar” calendar, driven by both the moon and sun. Like January 1, it’s a time for looking forward and for wishing those you love a new season of health, happiness, and prosperity.

Thanks to Magic Cup’s Asian American roots, the Lunar New Year has always held a special place in our hearts. We think of it as a way to give back to our surrounding community by extending extra love and support to our fellow Texans. Each Lunar New Year, Magic Cup does its part to spread the spirit of good fortune by handing out red envelopes at each MCC location. The envelopes––traditional good luck charms, usually filled with money––offer our customers bonus savings as a “thank you” for their continued business all year long.

And that’s not all. Magic Cup also hosts huge outdoor parties at every store, complete with performances from professional “Lion Dancers” whose moves are said to promote wisdom and power. Plus, Magic Cup owners plan a separate get-together just for partners that’s designed to encourage lasting friendships and get franchisees excited for the coming year.

This Lunar New Year (the Year of the Ox in China and the Year of the Buffalo in Vietnam) will of course be a little different due to COVID-19 protocols. But our commitment to our friends and family isn’t going anywhere. Red envelopes will still be available to in-store customers (friendly, masked staff will be ready and waiting!). In addition, all members of our TapMango Rewards Program will receive double points on all purchases from February 12-14.
